This is a MUST HAVE for anyone’s emergency kit. It works great! The light is bright and the speakers are clear and the charge holds for a very long time. It charges my phone easily. Great Buy!!!
Love this gadget. I haven’t had to use it for charging yet but am hopeful. There’s a task light that flips up, in addition to the big light at the front. 3 radio bands. What endears me is that they didn’t leave any wasted space – so there’s a compass and a cutting tool on the strap as well.

Customer Reviews
This handy emergency radio is a must to have on hand. The clarity of the sound is impressive, especially in the FM mode. The AM and Weather modes are about average in strength of signal, but work just fine. Good flashlight and reading light. I fully charged it via USB cable before using it. That took a while, but after the initial charge, solar will easily maintain its charge.
Emergency Weather Radio with Large Solar Panel I’ve been testing the various features of this radio. I’ve checked and everything works as described. Powered both lights (on high) and the fm radio. Finally, after about 18 hours, a blinking light told me that the built-in battery is getting low. Now I will see what the solar cell will do. Not long after the 18 hours, the entire unit shuts down automatically. When set on the car hood in full sunlight with the solar cell tilted at about 45°, the charging light started blinking. After 3 hours of solar charging, I turned on both lights and the fm radio (as before) and it ran for about a hour and a half. I did try the hand crank and it did start charging. When the battery was fully charged, the resistance on the crank dropped noticeably. Overall, this is a very nice emergency radio. It’s not the most sensitive tuner, but it pulls in clear signals from the stronger local stations including the weather station. It performs as advertised.
3. Solar Emergency Hand Crank Radio
This classic iRonsnow model is the best budget-friendly emergency radio you can buy. It’s been upgraded with a 2000mAh battery, a power level indicator, and a brighter 1W LED flashlight with SOS mode. While it’s smaller and less powerful than premium models, it reliably picks up NOAA alerts, charges phones in a pinch, and the hand crank works effectively. For under $30, it’s an unbeatable value for a basic emergency kit.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ 2000mAh Battery with Indicator – Four LEDs show charge level at a glance.
- ✓ Upgraded 1W SOS Flashlight – Super-bright with long-press distress mode.
- ✓ NOAA/AM/FM Reception – Clear weather band signals.
- ✓ Three Power Sources – Hand crank, solar, and USB-C charging.
- ✓ Ultra-Compact & Lightweight – Fits easily in a glovebox or backpack.
Why We Recommend It
The Best Budget award goes to this radio because it delivers core emergency functions without frills. It’s proven itself in real storms, and the reviews consistently praise its reliability for the price. The power indicator is a small but crucial upgrade, and the SOS light is surprisingly bright. It’s the ideal “just in case” device for cost-conscious shoppers.

Students, apartment dwellers, or anyone wanting a affordable, no-fuss emergency radio for their car or dorm room. It’s also perfect for bulk purchases for community emergency kits.

Customer Reviews
I like the look of size and the fact that it works amazingly I use the flash light a lot but I really feel like it could last and be there for me when I really need it.
It is a gamble when ordering these types of items online blindly, I have had a few various brand emergency radios in the past and some that were double this one’s price and failed to meet my expectations. My expectation is that the device at is able to provide it’s own source of power to operate the flashlight for a reasonable amount of time and provide a clear audible emergency weather broadcast. Anything more than that is wonderful to me. This device has a bright light, the radio and emergency weather broadcast functions well with great reception from the antenna indoors, it only takes a minute of charging using hand crank to provide over an hour of light and about 15 minutes of simultaneous radio and light which is nice. The solar charging seems sufficient for emergencies, I had it sit on a window ledge for about 6 hours of clear sun and it provided enough charge to power the device for about 30 minutes of continuous light and radio. When fully charged using USB it was capable of charging my Galaxy Note 9 phone around 15% before unable to charge anymore. The device still had enough charge remaining to run continuous light and radio for another 30 minutes, it probably just does not provide enough juice to maintain the USB charge on the phone after a certain % of battery is used. I fully charged the radio using USB from dead to fully charged in about 1.5 hours. I was able to charge a dead 0% battery Galaxy S4 up to 38% before no longer charging further, and again the radio still had charge left to run continuous light and radio for about half an hour. The hand crank and solar panel does not seem to charge other devices externally via USB, it only functions to charge the internal battery. It is a handy battery pack for emergencies, packaging says 1200mah and that seems about right. I plan to buy several more of these to toss into prep kits for car and home. Very happy with this radio for the price you cannot beat it!
4. Emergency Radio Power Bank
This 22000mAh beast combines a massive power bank with a solid emergency radio. It includes FM/NOAA weather bands (note: no AM), Bluetooth for music, a 20W wireless charger, and a robust hand crank. The four output ports (USB-C, USB-A) let you charge multiple devices simultaneously, making it a central hub for family emergencies. The build is sturdy, and the flashlight is bright, though the antenna feels a bit delicate.
Key Features That Stand Out
- ✓ 22000mAh Enormous Battery – Charges phones, tablets, and more multiple times.
- ✓ 20W Wireless Charging – Qi-compatible for compatible smartphones.
- ✓ Bluetooth Audio – Stream music or use as a speaker.
- ✓ 4 Charging Ports – USB-C input/output, USB-A output for multiple devices.
- ✓ FM/NOAA Weather Bands – Reliable emergency broadcasts.
Why We Recommend It
For sheer power capacity, this is the winner. The 22000mAh battery means you can keep your family’s devices powered for days. The addition of Bluetooth and wireless charging makes it useful even in non-emergency situations. It’s a premium all-in-one that justifies its higher price for heavy users and preppers.
Best For
Large families, extended road trips, or serious preppers who need to charge multiple gadgets. It’s also great for remote cabins or RVs where power is scarce.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Huge 22000mAh battery is exceptional for charging.
- Wireless charging and Bluetooth add everyday utility.
- Multiple ports allow simultaneous device charging.
- Solid construction with bright flashlight.
Cons:
- No AM radio band (only FM/NOAA).
- Antenna feels fragile; requires careful handling.
- Bulky and heavier than most.
- Hand crank effort is higher due to large battery.
Customer Reviews
I bought this as an emergency radio because we live in OK and we have tornadoes all year long and we go camping. It’s a very nice radio. Sounds great. The antenna seems fragile so be careful with that. The flashlight is great and so is the wireless charging. Have yet to use it during a storm, I will update my review if I get the chance to use it or if it’s faulty. It’s a good size. I do not like the big bulky radios. This has everything I need. It’s a little bigger than my phone. I just wish it had AM radio. It has FM and WB which is great for weather updates but it’s great other than that.
Nice features, the radio isn’t that loud on startup which is a plus when using it indoors. The hand crank feature gives peace of mind and it’s consistently charged via solar. For the money the fact it’s 22000mAh is great for the price but unfortunately since it can’t output 65W it’s only for phones or peripherals and won’t charge my laptop during use. Overall a great value for camping or office use and every day carry.

This isn’t a radio—it’s a dedicated corded landline phone designed specifically for seniors with emergency needs. It features 8 one-touch speed dial buttons (with space for photos), a prominent SOS button that automatically dials a preset number, and an extremely loud ringer (up to 110dB). - SOS button provides instant emergency contact.
- No batteries, subscriptions, or charging required.
Cons:
- Requires a working landline connection.
- No portability; must stay plugged in.
- Limited to calling only; no weather alerts or other features.
- Only one ringtone option (some users found it high-pitched).
Customer Reviews
Perfect! Very easy to program and easy for my dad to use.
Simple as advertised. Great for the elderly. Cute design where photos can be used for automatic dialing to frequently called family and friends. A 4 rather than a 5 star rating because it would have been nice to have ring tone options rather than a single (high pitched) ring tone that can only be adjusted in 2 preset volumes. Otherwise a very nice, low tech phone that works well in old fashioned, but still practical phone outlets.

Customer Reviews
Extremely reliable. Haven’t had a single issue with it and I’ve had it for I’d say almost a year now. If you’re looking for a little of your freedom, well, here it is. Worth every penny and some if you ask me, but I’ve been a caregiver for about 8 years in the same house with no relief so. You do have to pay a subscription for it but it uses the same number every time it calls my phone so I was able to put it in under mom’s button which is really nice and it’s not just a random pool of numbers. It’s a must have if you’re a caregiver who actually cares.
This device is a game changer. While my mom is staying at my house she can use this to alert me when she needs help. I keep my phone near wherever I go inside or outside the house and I get the notification no matter where I am. Bought an additional device for my dad while my mom is at my house. He can’t use a phone but now he can notify me when he needs to contact me. I can now look at my ring camera when he pushes the button and communicate with him.

Customer Reviews
I bought this during a terrible ice storm. While it arrived at the end of being without power. Ive used it a few times since. Super cute , small and usable. The antenna works well. Go easy on the crank. It does charge. No complaints In my book. I also bought a 2nd one at a later time.
Much more solidly constructed than I expected. Works well out of the box and came about 75% charged. Radio reception is about what you’d expect from a small antenna. It picks up local stations near me with no issues. The flashlight is much brighter than I expected also. Handy little item for an outdoor kit or glovebox for emergency use. I would buy this again.

Customer Reviews
Impressive!!! A few cranks and radio station not only came in, but sounded amazingly good!! This weather radio has everything a survival, prepper or the average person could need in a power outage. Short term ideal radio alerts, am/fm, solar power, battery backup, flashlight, NOAA, hand crank power and will charge usb ports for phone or other items. Of course this small radio can only do so much, but an impressive small power house! Lightweight, everything folds in and covered for easy backpacking or home emergency. Definitely a great value!! It has so many features and all are great!!!
This is the best made portable radio I have, and I have many including another “emergency” radio that is junk compared to this. I wasnt sure what to expect. It’s VERY solid, it’s like a brick (in the good way). When you put it down it doesnt fall over, weighty, flat sides/bottom, stays PUT. Quality look and feel throughout every function and all work as described. The sound so far exceeds what you normally get in a radio thats for energency use, or not. Even if you want a super solid great sounding radio and dont need the crank generator and lighting features, seriously buy it for the quality, grest looks and smooth room-filling sound. All the switches and knobs operate beautifully. This looks and feels like a government radio used in the military. And added bonus is loud hi-decible siren w/strobe, strong panel light behind solar panel that lights your room or path very widely and has lower setting for softer reading-type light. Love the strong included Lithium Ion cell. Easily recharges from large monocrystaline solar panel (mono is the much better and more efficient panel over the cheaper poly type). Folds away flat when not in use. Has included USB-C charging cable. This radio plays all day with no problem with the Li-ion rechargeable batterly, and you can add your own aaa cells (3) if you want. Get yourself this solid brick of a radio. And if/when there is a energency you will be extra glad you picked this. It looks/sounds/feels much better in person. Good tuner, pulls in stations strongly and clearly. Radio construction has some weather/water resistance to it.
Complete Buying Guide for Emergency SOS Phone
Essential Factors We Consider
When shopping for an Emergency SOS device, focus on battery capacity (mAh), NOAA weather band reception, and power sources (solar, hand crank, USB). Seniors may prioritize ease of use with big buttons and loud alerts, while outdoor enthusiasts need durability and bright flashlights. Also, check if the device can charge your phone—a crucial feature during extended outages. For pure emergency calling, a dedicated SOS phone like the Uvital model is simpler, while multi-function radios offer more versatility.
Budget Planning
You can find reliable emergency radios from $25 to $50 (like the Best Budget #3). Mid-range models with larger batteries and better solar panels run $50 to $100 (our top picks fall here). Premium units with massive capacity and advanced features cost $100 to $200. Dedicated SOS phones for seniors typically cost $30 to $60. Set a budget based on your needs: a basic radio for car storage vs. a high-capacity home hub.
Final Thoughts
An Emergency SOS device is not something to skimp on—it could save lives. Our top pick, the Emergency Crank Radio (#1), offers the best balance of power, features, and reliability. For seniors, the Uvital Big Button Phone (#5) provides simplicity and immediate help. Remember to pair your device with a suitable phone plan; our guide on best cell phone deals for seniors can help you find affordable coverage for your mobile devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What exactly is an Emergency SOS Phone?
A: It’s any device with a dedicated button or function that sends an immediate distress signal or call for help. This can be a standalone phone (like the Uvital), a multi-function emergency radio with an SOS alarm, or a wearable watch. They’re designed for situations where you can’t access a regular phone.
Q: How long do these devices hold a charge?
A: It varies by model. High-capacity batteries (20000mAh+) can hold charge for months when unused. Smaller 2000mAh batteries may self-discharge in a few weeks. Always check the manufacturer’s specs and recharge every 3-6 months if stored.
Q: Can emergency radios charge smartphones?
A: Yes, most can. Battery capacity determines how many full charges you get. A 20000mAh radio can charge a typical smartphone 4-5 times, while a 2000mAh model might only provide 15-25% charge. Look for USB-A or USB-C output ports.
Q: Do I need a landline or cell plan for these to work?
A: For SOS phones that dial out (like the Uvital), you need an active landline. For radios with SOS alarms, they emit loud sounds/strobe lights but don’t call for help—they alert others nearby. The WiFi Caregiver Pager (#8) needs a home WiFi network and a smartphone for alerts.
Q: Are these devices waterproof?
A: Most have some water resistance (IPX4 or IPX5), meaning they can handle rain or splashes but not submersion. Check the product specs. For true waterproofing, look for IPX7 or higher, which is rare in this category.
